God's Plan

"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son..."(Galatians 4:4KJV)

As you celebrate the birth of the Christ Child, remember that God had the perfect plan. God placed the perfect One into this world to be the sacrifice for our sin. Jesus is the Savior of the world. In Jesus, life and eternity exist. Jesus is God's perfect gift to man. Jesus is God's only beloved son. Jesus is the Way to Glory!

Peace!

Overcoming obstacles in your life is a REAL possibility. Try this!

JESUS is our obstacle OVER-COMER!

Read John 6: 1-14

Thanks...

As I was perusing the Psalms for words of thanksgiving, I came across this question.

"What can I render unto the Lord for all His benefits towards me?" Psalm 116:12 KJV
The NIV records it this way. "How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness to me? The BBE reads, "What may I give to the Lord for all the good things which he has done for me?"

The question, no matter how you ask it, has a simple answer. For all that Christ has done for you and me, we need only to receive Jesus as our Savior and praise His name among His people (116:13,14). Choosing Jesus will show our thanksgiving for His never-ending love for us.

In this season of thanksgiving, let Jesus know how thankful you are for Him by loving Him with all your heart, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37). That's what Jesus wants most from us!

Thank you Lord Jesus for loving us to the point that You died for our sins so that we might receive forgiveness of our sins and through a relationship with You, we can know the Father and have victory and claim the promise of eternity with You. Thank you for Your amazing love and sacrifice. Thank you for our hope. In Jesus' name. Amen

Pray or Play

Praying without action is PLAYING. Should we or do we really expect God to do all the work without our involvement? When a prayer is placed before the throne of God expect an opportunity to be placed before you. Be ready ALWAYS to GO into ACTION. We are in this earthly ministry with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. We are on Heaven's team.

Remember..."I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Phil 4:13

Lord Jesus, Help me to recognize the opportunities of my prayers. Give me the words to speak, the patience to listen, the heart to hear, and the vision to see clearly. Lead me Lord Jesus where you would have me to go to accomplish Your will. In Your name I pray. Amen.

Fighting...

The mouse on my computer is giving me a fight here lately. It seems it has its on mind and direction it wants to go. I move it up and it goes left, I move it down and it says put, I slam it against the pad a few times and it still doesn't want to cooperate. What is a semi-patient man to do? Well there is a solution to this problem; get rid of it.

That's how it is with problems in our lives; sin, self, Satan. When we (believers) want to do the right thing, move in the right direction, click on the Truth, these often fight against us. (And some days are worse than others) Well we don't have to fight these battles! Jesus has already claimed the victory for us! Say NO to sin, surrender self to Jesus, and order Satan to move back to his corner. Stand in Victory with Jesus!

"Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! (Matthew 4:10 NKJV)

Don't fight the mouse, get rid of the problem!

Lord Jesus, help us to know victory today! Help us to stand in victory! In Jesus' name. Amen.

Becoming...

And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. (Mark 1:17 KJV)

Jesus met the men where they were; at work along the sea shore. His words presented three truths for them and to us today.

1) There's a Point of Decision "Come ye after me"
2) There's a Process of Learning (growth) "I will make you to become"
3) There's a Purpose to be Achieved "Fishers of men"

Go fishing for Jesus today!

Lord Jesus, make me to become the fisherman You want me to be. Lead me to them so we can bring them in. In Your name I pray. Amen

NOW

"Behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of Salvation" 2 Corinthians 6:2

When I consider that God is timeless and that God exists in an "Eternal Now" I understand the importance of forgetting yesterday and not getting caught up in thoughts of tomorrow, but focusing on the "Now" of my life. God wants me and you to give Him our complete and total obedience NOW. We must live for Him at this moment, today!

Challenge...

...Talk with God today
...Listen to God today
...Respond for God today

Give God yourself NOW

Lord Jesus, may my focus be on You today and use me now for Your purpose. In Your name I pray. Amen

The Word vs. the world

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18)

Father, today is your day. A day when the church gathers to worship You. Reveal in us Your power. Strengthen us and use us to reach those which are lost. We stand in VICTORY over this world by the power of Your WORD. Glory to God! In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, I pray. Amen.

Be the one to Bring one to the ONE!

Refreshed

After dealing with a severe chest congestion for the past couples months, I'm finally beginning to feel "some" better. It's been rough and some days seemed to never end. The constant cough would drain all my energy. But on those days when I didn't feel much like doing anything I found the Lord giving me strength to complete His work. One Sunday morning I got on my knees in my office and reminded Jesus that I couldn't preach if I couldn't speak. I knew that God had a message for me to share with His church and when it was time to preach my voice would be there. It was! As I walked to the pulpit my voice was restored. Another time I was to sing at a "Going Home" service for a dear precious saint. She passed earlier in the week and I was asked if I could be there. I couldn't and I didn't say no although I knew how sick I was. My sister asked me the morning of the funeral how I was going to sing. For me the answer was simply "I'm leaving that up to God." I remember praying that God would use the words of the old hymn to bless someone. The strum of my guitar prepared hearts for the voices and words that followed and God was glorified!

I tell you all that to say this. Trust God to use you and never doubt His presence with you. When you are pulled under by the waves of this world, reach out for the hand of Jesus. Remember the words of truth that the Apostle Paul received from Jesus and claim them for your own.

"And he [Jesus] said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness..." (2Cor 12:9a)

When we live our lives in the "Grace" of Jesus, we too can respond as Paul (no matter what life has to offer us).

Paul said, "Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Cor 12:9b)

Lord Jesus, Thank you for your continuing grace and strenght which You supply to us daily. Glorify yourself through us today. In the name of the ONE. Amen.

Something Worth Praising

Hello friends,

I've waited patiently and today has finally arrived. The Internet has been connected at Goshen FWB Church. Two months waiting for the connection was completed in two hours, but who's counting!

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Amen! Now let's stay connected to each other through Jesus and this blog. "NETWORKING FOR JESUS"

Lord Jesus, I pray that the words and thoughts You put in my heart and mind will speak to the hearts and minds of Your children, my readers. Father in Heaven, be glorified! In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen!

Daddy Moment

This morning Faith asked me to help her remove the old toe-nail polish from her toes and pick out a new color. She didn't realize how special that was to me. Wiping her toes and feet was a precious moment.

Jesus washed the disciple's toes and feet and I'm most certain that it was a precious moment for all of them too. It was a show of love; a Savior's love, a humbling love, an example of how we should love one another.

Thanks Faith for this mornings precious moment.
Thanks Jesus for our precious moments.

John 13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

Jesus, thank you for your never-ending love for us. You set the example for us to follow. You lead us and show us how to love. We love you and we praise you! Amen.

Glorify!

When there's Nothing...Pray!
When there's Something...Proclaim!
When there's Everything...Praise!

When there's Nothing...Proclaim!
When there's Something...Praise!
When there's Everything...Pray!

When there's Nothing...Praise!
When there's Something...Pray!
When there's Everything...Proclaim!

It's all the same as I see it!
It's all about the Glory!

Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

And all God's people said, "AMEN!"

Jesus said...

Jesus said, "Follow Me."
I said, "where?"
Jesus said, "Wherever."
I said, "when?"
Jesus said, "Whenever."
I said, "How?"
Jesus said, "HOWEVER! You ask too many questions. Just follow Me."
I said, "Okay??"
Jesus said, "It's okay to be afraid, just trust me."

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand." (Psalms 37:23-24 NKJV)

Lord Jesus, I put my life in your hands. I will listen for your voice. I will move when and where and how you tell me. Please stay near to me. Amen.

Back pews....22c

Last night on flight 1869 from Charlotte to Nashville I was seated in seat 22c, the very back pew. I usually try to get a seat nearer to the front but not this time, I couldn't make it happen. There was no place to store my carry-on suitcase near my seat. The seat didn't recline. There was a less than pleasant smell at the back of the plane. The ride was rough due to the stormy weather. And the people next to me didn't want to include me in their conversation. They were talking about drinking and partying: the good life. When I could take it no more I asked them this question.

" How have we come to this place as a society that we promote destruction in the family with alcohol?"

My question might have been a little serious but it changed the direction of their conversation, actually they stopped talking about drinking altogether. For the next 20 minutes it was like I wasn't there. Then the young girl next to me, (a 20 year old single mother who had recently lost a baby at 16 weeks) began to talk with me. We talked about Angels and beaches and life stuff. We talked about her boyfriend and her church. We talked about Jesus. Then something interesting happened...

Remember I said the weather was bad, it was a rough ride. The attendants attempted to serve their guest coffee and water and such, but decided the situation was not favorable. But wouldn't you know, the people on the back pew (Row 22) did get served. In seat 22c I got to talk about Jesus and He gave me a glass of apple juice.......... now I find that interestingly amazing!

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Lord Jesus, thank you for your cross and for your strength and for your apple juice. Amen.

Special Thanks!

I Graduated! The day which seemed would never come, came and went. It feels great to have completed this part of the journey.

God is working because He is faithful. God knows my heart and hears my prayers.

Continue to pray with us as we seek His will and the place which God would have us to minister. Divine Decisions require Divine Discernment. I don't want to get ahead of God at this point.

Thanks to all who have prayed for me so faithfully these past four years! I love you all!

floods of answered prayers

During the now historic rain storm which flooded Nashville (May 1, 2010) I was in Mount Holly NC with my wife and daughter looking at a possible church to begin my ministry. As I reflect on the three day adventure, on the beautiful weather, on the love of the people, on the developing community, on the spirit of the service, on the needs of the church, on the hearts of the workers, on the response of my family, on my Lord and provided, I know that God has flooded me with answers to all my prayers. I see His hand guiding and directing me. God has opened the flood gates of Heaven on me. I called the church on May 4th and told them I and my family wanted to come and be a part of them. It's an exciting time to saturated in His love!

Re 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
(KJV)

Father, thank you for your clear direction and the opportunity to be used of You. Prepare the hearts of your people in Mount Holly for the days, weeks, months, and years ahead. Bless our obedience as we seek to do your will. Help us to build your kingdom. Help us to be your light of hope. In Jesus' name. Amen

"New Mercies" every morning. God always comes through on His promises so look for yours today. Believe, anticipate, and welcome God's new mercies to your life today!

Through the LORD'S mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV)

Lord Jesus, I welcome your love and mercy this morning. Make your presence very real today. Glorify yourself today! Amen.

Direction

The road less traveled began with a 707.56 mile move in God's direction. Where now Lord? There is more road to travel. Let go Lord!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Move slowly

Do you ever think God is teaching you patience? That's how I feel right now. I look at everything and consider if it is of God. Is He leading me and this is part of the plan? Is this or that His will? Does everything mesh somehow? Lots of questions but there are no stupid questions. Yeah, I think it is training! Well, I'll be patient and move forward as God moves.

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Lord Jesus, I pray that I will know your leading and that I will forever be obedient to you. Teach me I pray. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Question/Answer

How can we be effective Christians? Listen for God and respond to His voice.

How do I know when something is God's will or it is just my own will? Examine your heart and motives while seeking His peace.

But I don't understand everything in the Bible? Join the club! Begin studying and God will reveal His truths to you in His timing.

What about my mistakes? Learn from them and use them for God's glory.

Can God really use me? Yes, if you are willing to be used by God.

But I'm still confused. I don't know what I'm doing.

Friend, God uses those who don't know what they are doing to do great things.

Remember...
  • Never say never when there's a remote possibility that it's God.
  • Be careful seeking the advice of others when God is speaking to you directly.
  • Be open to God and allow God to lead you wherever He wants.
  • Read God's Word; it is God speaking to you.
  • Pray to God. He wants to hear from you.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV)

That means you!

Lord Jesus, help us to accomplish Your purpose for us. Help us to be bold, brave, and busy for the Kingdom of Heaven while we wait on You to return. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

The Message of Truth

But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen. (Jude 1:17-25 NKJV)

It says it All!

Repent and be Saved
AMEN and AMEN!

Escape

At the end of a long day it's comforting to find rest in Jesus. He is your peace and security. He makes everything alright!

Now I lay me down to sleep, I thank the Lord my soul He keeps! Good Night Jesus. Amen

Stand Ready

Beware the enemy! He moves around us with one purpose; DEATH. He likes to confuse, create doubt, cause smart people to make stupid mistakes, and conquer his targets. But "Stand Ready!" Don't be fooled. Trust your heart and your Savior. Remember your Salvation! Jesus is your salvation.

"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 NKJV)

Victory in Jesus!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)

Thank you Jesus for our victory in YOU! I can withstand when I stand-with You. You are my strength and Salvation. In the wonderful name of Jesus. Amen.

Looking or Being New?

This week has been paint-the-house-week. As I rolled a coat of paint on the wall I said to myself, "that looks new again." It's amazing how the paint hides the scuffs and scratches.

I like looking new but I love being new. When I received Jesus, He didn't just make me look new, He made me new. He didn't just cover over the scuffs and scratches of my life, He removed them completely!

"Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17; RSV)

How is it with you today? Are you living a life that looks new or are you New in Christ? I invite you to join the Jesus team. We are always looking for New members!

If you are not sure then why don't you make sure right now! Ask Jesus to make you New again!!

Father, You sent the One and Only to do what man could not do himself. Jesus made the way for everyone to become new again. Many have found the Way and He has made us new. Thank you Jesus! Now some may still be searching Lord. Help them to find their way to You. Help them to know and receive You. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Standing at the Gate

Acts 3 tells us about a crippled man healed at the gate called "Beautiful." Those in the temple courts were amazed at this wonder. Peter said that he was healed "by faith in the name of Jesus." (3:16)

Our healer is the One called Beautiful. The same Jesus! Jesus knows your trouble. Stand before Him in faith and trust Him for your healing. Allow Jesus to do a wonderful work in you and through you. Believe in His power. Amaze the people! Give God His glory.

Read Acts 3

Father, thank you for the Savior, our Savior, my Saviour. Thank you for sending us the Healer. Thank you for the love of Jesus. In the name of Jesus I say thank you! Amen

feel the love

I'm feeling the love this morning. It's all about "love."

Proverbs 8:17 "I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me."

John 14:21 "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Jesus, thanks for loving me. Amen

Directions

Life is full of directions. Some directions help keep us safe, like how fast to drive. Some directions help keep us in line, like where to sit. Some directions help us complete a project or task correctly, like the first time. But not all directions lead us in the right direction. As Christians, we must be careful not get misdirected. We must seek godly direction in everything we do and everywhere we go. Love Jesus and He will direct your path.

Proverbs 3:6, "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path."

Lord Jesus, You know where you will lead us and where we will follow. Help us to be obedient along the way and to recognize You. Help us to see your plan as it unfolds before us. Help us we pray. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Needed & Sent

God puts us where we are needed. We just have to respond to the need.

While on my way to Pitt Memorial Hospital last Saturday to visit my Aunt Hallie my phone rang. It was Mr. Thomas, a friend I had made weeks earlier while at Pitt Hospital with my mom. He was calling to tell me about his decision to remove life support from his wife. He was hurting inside and was reaching out to me. But what Mr. Thomas did not know was that God had a plan. I wasn't 700 miles away when I answered my phone, I was only 30 miles and headed in his direction. What a special few hours we shared. We laughed, we cried, and we prayed together. Yes, God puts us where we are needed, we just have to respond to the need.

Psalm 121:2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.(NKJV)

Father, I am still waiting for another call from Mr. Thomas as he waits on You. Be near to my friend and his family and put others there to help in his time of need. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Empty

I've been reading recently about the grave of Jesus and those gathered there on that first Sunday morning after His death. I read about it in four different translations of the God's Word. Also, I read a survey article recently that talked about the confusion around the true meaning of Easter. So why all the confusion?

Each Bible I read told the same amazing story. Different people went there and found the same thing. The grave of the Messiah was "Empty." The place where the lifeless body of Jesus had been placed was "empty." Jesus was not there, only His burial clothes remained.

And what about the congregation that morning? Mary Magdalene, the lady that Jesus had removed seven demons from, Peter; the rock, the one who promised to give his life for Jesus but then denied Jesus, and "the one that Jesus loved," John. He was a fast runner according to the biblical accounts I read but he hesitated at the tomb (I'm still thinking about that). But when he finally went into the "empty" grave all the Bibles I read say "he saw and believed!"

I've been thinking about the "empty" grave, the people gathered there, the people Jesus met during His life on earth, and the people Jesus meets today and everyday. We are all different with different stories but we have one thing in common. We believe that the grave is "Empty" because our Lord, Jesus Christ is Risen! That's the true meaning of Easter!

Suggested reading (In any version of the Bible) John 20!

Do you believe?

Lord Jesus, the grave could not hold you, you are Risen! You are with the Father and You will come again to bring us, those that believe and received You as Savior, where You are, to forever be with You. Your grave is empty, You are Risen! Amen!

Friendship

Have you ever accomplished something that you didn't think you could? Recently our dryer quit. It would run but it didn't put out any heat. So I said to myself, "Self" you can do this." But I knew that in order to fix this machine I would need some help. So I called Orbie. He walked me through the process and things were going well until I ran into a problem and Orbie can't see through the phone. So I called David, he lives just down the road for me. He came over, surveyed the situation, found the problem and ordered the part. Well I took it from there. After driving to pick up the part, I installed it, put the dryer back together, and it's as good as knew. The gift of friendship!

That's a lot like life. When problems arise I just have to call on my Friend, the one the sticks closer than a brother. The true Gift of friendship!

Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.(NKJV)

How did our grandmothers and moms make it without a dryer?

Lord Jesus, thank you for those you have put in my life to help me along. I call them friend and I call You Friend. Amen.

Miracles

I just had to post this today.

This morning I received a phone call from Aunt Hallie's son Phillip and his words were "you better get down on one knee and praise God!" Now I've been expecting a call that Aunt Hallie had gone on to be with Jesus but that wasn't it today. Listen and believe!

A team of Doc's preformed another test this morning on Aunt Hallie's neck and when they compared the results to the two test taken upon her arival, they were quite surprised. They told the family that "the broken neck didn't look like the one on the other CT-Scans. The bones had re-aligned on their own and had started healing. There is no need of surgery" They also said, "she should have died but she would probably go home in a couple days and there is no injury to the spinal cord." Talk about answered prayers!!

On the phone, some 650 miles apart, Phillip and I prayed together, cried together, and praised God together. I challenged Phillip to return to his first love for he had witnessed a wonderful miracle of God.

Never doubt the Master's hand. Never give up hope! Hold fast to your FAITH!

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Lord Jesus, I know you could call Aunt Hallie home anytime, but I thank you and praise you for today. My spirit is lifted and my heart is overflowing. I stand before You amazed at your greatness. You are awesome! To God be the glory forever. Amen!

"Hey!"

We just finished having our Bible reading together, that is me and my Aprille. Faith is at a Saturday morning practice for the school play. We have been reading Romans together, lots of interesting Bible truth in it. Some of it is deep, difficult, confusing, and some of it is very specific and clear. It's all God's truth.

Well, I turned the page and read the last few verses, and with a sense of joy I turned and looked to Aprille. What? Is she praying? Has the sound of my voice inspired her to seek God? "Hey," I shouted with emphasis and she is startled to attention. "Are you asleep?" I ask, and with her soft little sweet voice she says, "sorry." We laughed and I said, "What better way to fall asleep than to the sound of God's Word."

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. (Deuteronomy 6:6-9 KJV)

Lord Jesus, help us to be faithful. May You find us finding You. Fill us and seal us with Your Word. In the wonderful name of Jesus. Amen.

Lessons

I received one of those dreaded calls last night. My dearest Aunt Hallie fell and broke her neck. This morning's news confirmed my worst thoughts, plus she has a bleed on her brain. This pulls at my heart.

In my hurt for Aunt Hallie, I realize that distance becomes my enemy and life doesn't stand still for me when tragedy comes. The norm becomes the challenge. I also understand that my decisions have taken me far away from those I love dearest, yet strangely, almost mystically, I sense a very comforting peace.

What can I learn from this situation in my life today? Much!

Jesus hurt for me. Jesus knows no distance. Jesus defeated my enemy. Jesus makes my winds and waves to stand still. All things are possible with Jesus. Obedience to Jesus has its rewards. True Love lives in the heart. Jesus is not a stranger. Jesus sent the promised Comforter!

Friends, my escape is Jesus. He is true to His promises. He has proven himself over and over to me, for me. I give Him praise and glory...Praise the Name of Jesus! Amen!

"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the [my] hope of glory:" (Colossians 1:27 KJV)

Lord Jesus, hold Aunt Hallie close for me this morning. Hold her tight and love on her. Thank you Jesus. Thank you for being my escape. Amen.

Comment by Linda...March 26 at 7:44pm

I know your hurt. Jesus himself knew your hurt. Remember when he was away ministering and Lazarus' sisters sent him a message to come home? He was several days away from home. The Bible says that he cried. He was sorrowful even though he knew that He had the power to make everything all right again. He grieved even though he knew that what he was about to do would show him victorious over even death. Still He knew the hurt.
The lesson that I've learned? Lay in His arms and cry when you need to, even while you know that He has the power to make it all right again. Lay it all on Him. His strength is made perfect in our weakness. He alone has the power to make beauty from the ashes. That is the basis of our hope. That is also, btw, the basis of "Second Chances". Beauty from ashes.
He's got Aunt Hallie. He's got your mama. He's got Aprille. He's got Faith. He's got your future. It is all His.

Absolutely

Romans 10:4 says it all. "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes."

The Beginning became the "end" so that you and I could have a beginning.

Do you agree?

Assurance

Psalms 37: 23-24
23) The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
24) Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. (KJV)

What a promise to the faithful!
What an encouragement to the faithful!
What a comfort to the faithful!
What a reason to be faithful!
What a Friend Jesus is to the faithful!

Lord, you assure us by Your Word. Our hope is found in You. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Time....

I've got a confession to make. Sometimes I just want Paul time. I just need to be alone and do what I want to do! Is that wrong?

A few weeks ago I took Faith to the park and I decided that I would sit in the car so I could be alone and read. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I didn't want to play any games with Faith. I just wanted some time to myself.

So while I was sitting in my car reading and minding my own business a car pulls up beside me in the parking lot. I made a very specific effort not to notice them although they parked right beside me when there were many other empty spaces to park. But I just focused on me, my time, and my book.

Well wouldn't you know it, the lady in the car next to me started some small-talk. Then she asked me what I was reading. Then she asked where I was from. My accent gives it away that I'm not from Tennessee. (Now remember, I'm trying to spend time with myself. That's all I wanted to do.) Then she asked me "Why did you move to Tennessee?"

Immediately I thought in my heart, That's it Lord! You win! I put my book down and began telling her my testimony and quizzing her about her life and Spiritual condition. The lady said repeatedly, "You have really nice stories." I told her it was my life and I told her about Jesus too.

I learned that day that Jesus wants my time to be His time. He tells me to be ready at all times to tell people about Him. And He puts people in my path to listen too. I serve an awesome God!

By the way, the book I was reading was Surprising Insights From the Unchurched and Proven Ways to Reach Them by Thom Rainer. Now that had to make God laugh a little! I think God was picking on me........

1Peter 3:15, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear."

Lord you got me that time. Thanks for sending Chrissie and draw her close to you. She's a single mom trying to raise her son and she needs to know You personally. Help her to find You and Help me to make all my time Your time. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

What if...

What if...

when I'm trying to get to sleep and I have friends I love on my mind, could it be that the Holy Spirit is prompting me to pray for them because they are in need or maybe they are praying for me at that very moment because of my need? I don't know but I do know that God knows. God knows everything. God knows what I need and God knows what my friends need. God knows our hearts. God knows how to get our attention too. Sleepless nights; sleep-less and pray-more nights!

1Th 5:6 "Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober."

what if...You come tonight Lord?

Refreshing truth

Has your life been difficult lately? Are you suffering through life? Do you think the enemy is against you and you only? Are you fighting with all your strength today yet questioning or doubting tomorrow? Do you feel like God has forgotten you, that He doesn't have time for you, or that He doesn't hear your prayers? Let me share God's refreshing truth found in
1 Peter 5: 8-11

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen."

Father, your Word is true. I look to the day when you will restore your creation fully but until that glorious day comes, I will find my strength in You. I claim your promises today for my life. Help me to stand firm in the Lord Jesus. Hold me close. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

feed me

Today I decided to help out the lawn. It was dry and dusty, a sad brown and yellow color. It needed some care. It needed nourishment. So I prepared it by cutting the dead away and raking the surface to break up the hard crust and then I sprinkled it with food and water.

As God's servant, I often find myself in need of His nourishment. I get dry and dusty. I know God sees me as spiritually pale sometimes. But then He goes to work. He prepares me for His nourishment. How awesome is the Spiritual food of God's Word!

Greener days ahead!

Psalm 34:8 "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him."

Feed me Lord Jesus so I can go forth full of your truth. Amen.

What love is...

When I get hold of the fact that God loved me so much that He sent His one and only Son to die for me, putting all my sin on Jesus so that I could know Him personally by believing on the Son Jesus, I can't help but think that I am special and valuable and important to God, for Him to do all this for me. Thanks God! You're Awesome!

What's really neat; God loves everyone just like He loves me!!

Have you found God, do you know Him? Know God today by finding Jesus today!

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (KJV)

Thank You Father for your unending love and might I add, patience. Thank you for loving me when I was lost and trying to find my way. Thank you for my Savior, Your Son Jesus. In His Name, Amen.

Missed opportunities

I know how it feels to miss out on a God opportunity. I once passed a man pushing his bike along I-440. I remember thinking that he must have some kind of mechanical problem. But I was on my way to college to take an exam and I just went on pass as I watched him in the rear-view mirror. All that day and for weeks afterwards I thought about the young man and how he had needed me to stop and offer him a lift. But no! I had just passed him by, focusing on my own personal and to be completely honest, selfish agenda.

As a way to relieve my own guilt and in an effort to teach others not to make the same mistake which I had made, I used this story as a sermon illustration. It was a powerful story. I brought the congregation right into the moment. It touched hearts including mine. If only I could go back in time and live that moment over. What would have been the outcome? How would the Holy Spirit have responded? But the past is gone. Yesterday's opportunity is missed forever. What a failure on my part!

Well the story doesn't end there! Several weeks later I was traveling that same stretch of busy interstate and to my surprise and joy I saw him again in the distance. And he was pushing his bike. Yes Lord I thought! I merged right through the traffic and pulled off the road just ahead of my highway friend. I offered him a ride and he gladly accepted. We put his bike in the back of my truck and off we went together. He was a Hispanic man who spoke broken English. He was headed close to where I was going. He worked as a gardener. He was a father of three and he knew the Lord as his personal Savior! I question him about why he was pushing his bike. I thought it was broken or something. He smiled and told me that "it was too hard to make it up the hill." Can you believe it! My highway-friend didn't need the Gospel, he just needed help getting up the hill. Does God want us to just help people up the hill sometimes? Duhh!

I dropped him off at the corner. I watch him ride away into the sun. And I thanked God for allowing me a second chance with this young man. I don't remember his name but I will forever remember the experience of missing an opportunity and then being given another. Be ready today for what God has placed before you! God just might want us to help someone struggling to make it up the hill.

Lu 10:33 "But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion."

Be the helping hand of Christ today!

Forgive us Lord when we miss the mark and help us to do better next time. Amen.

Do we know the meaning?

The holiday is almost here but do we know what it's all about?
Really, what is Easter to us?

Is Easter...
  • Rainbow colored eggs or the Resurrected Christ ?
  • Chocolate coated bunnies or the Confidence Call of Believers?
  • New clothes on Sunday or New Challenge to the saved?
  • Finding the most eggs hidden in the bushes and grass or focusing more on eternity and Heaven because there's an empty grave?

Easter is the Day of Victory! Jesus rose from the grave victorious! Friends, our Savior lives!

A recent Barna survey (March 15, 2010) reports, "Those who articulate a resurrected-related concept of Easter are no more likely... to invite friends to worship with them on Easter."

Do we know the meaning of Easter? Are we losing the battle because we do not share the truth of the Gospel; Christ arose! Jesus Lives!

Lord Jesus, like the faithful ladies at Your tomb that glorious Resurrection morning, help us to seek You early. Challenge us to know with confidence in our hearts that Your grave is empty, that You were victorious over death, that You rose again for us. Lord, help us to be bold witnesses for YOU. In Your name, Amen.

Read John 20!

John 20:1 "Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb."

Spirit of Healing

Luke 13: 10-17 has been my heart's prayer and confidence these past many months. I see a very close relation between Aprille's difficulties and the woman with the infirmity in the Scripture. I claim Luke 13:13 for Aprille because these two ladies serve the same Lord and Jesus loves both of them and Jesus hears the prayers of His own.

"Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the sabbath day." Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?" As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him. (Luke 13:10-17 RSV)

Father, I Praise You for you are worthy of my praise. I praise you for the work you are accomplishing in and through Aprille. Be glorified! Be glorified! Amen.

be the on to bring one to the ONE

In John's Gospel we learn that Brother John the Baptist was sent as a "Witness" for the "Light" who was Jesus (John 1:7, 15). But do we miss the truth of the story which is right before our eyes? John , the witnessing one, brought others along with him (John 1:35). Reading we learn that Andrew was a "disciple" of John (John 1:40). When Andrew realized that the "Messiah" was among them, the One which the witnessing one had came to witness of, Andrew went a brought his brother Peter "to Jesus" (John 1: 41, 42a). And what is really neat about the story is that Jesus, the Light, knew Peter's dad and Jesus changed Peter's name to "Cephas" which means "stone" (John 1:42b). And we all know that Peter became a bold witness of Jesus, bringing many to the Savior.

So what does this mean to you and me?
As I've said before, and I challenge you again today; "Be the one to bring one to the ONE!" This is our mission! Be faithful believers to the Holy ONE. The ONE "Who was and is and is to come" (Rev 4:8).

Lord, open our eyes to those standing next to us who are lost. Help us to be bold in our witness of You, sharing the living truth of Your Gospel. Use us I pray. In the Name of Jesus. Amen

test

Remember when you were in school!?. The teacher or professor fills your mind with all kinds of information over a period of several weeks then on a certain day gives you a test to see how much you have learned. The dreaded test! You only get one chance to get it right, one chance to make a good grade, one chance to recall all that you have been taught. If you're like me, you don't like tests. A test is a pressure that we would rather not have to endure. And when we don't do well on the test...well it's just not fair! I've made this statement more than once. "I studied and knew the material but not the answer to those questions."

Well in life I think it is okay to not know the answer to all the questions but......... we must pass the test before us! Many try to pass the test on their own abilities. I know this because I've "been there and done that." But friend, failure was the result of my self-effort . When I came to understand what it truly meant to be in a "right" relationship with Jesus my tests got a little easier. Yes, I still have test. Yes, I don't like test much. But with Jesus I know I can pass them.

So whatever the test you face today, my advice is to not face it alone. Examine your life and make your grade count by connecting with the One who is concrete and real and has all the answers. Seek Jesus and become one with Him. Tests strengthen your abilities through Christ. Tests sharpen your relationship with Jesus. Tests separate the self-righteous from the righteous. Tests have a specific purpose. Step up boldly to each opportunity. Take your test with Jesus on your side.

"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." (James 1:2-4 NKJV)

Lord Jesus, help us to score high marks on every test, challenge, and trial we face in this life. Our strength is You. Our hope is You. Our patience is You. Our victory is You! Amen.

Satisfaction

It may sound strange, but a seeking heart is a satisfied heart when the Savior is the Source. It's knowing that no matter what happens, the Savior is always there. It's understanding that it's okay to not have control because Jesus is all about control. It's trusting in the supreme when trust really does not make sense in the natural. It's depending on Jesus over depending on self. "Seek and you shall find" is your promise direct from your Creator. May your prayer to the Real One be "Find me finding You."

Isaiah 55:6, "Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near."

Lord Jesus; Find me when I am lost. Find me when I am alone. Find me when I am praising you. Find me obedient to you. Find me finding you. Amen

Great News!!

Good news is great news. When everything around you seems to be coming apart, falling down, turning inside out, mixed up, hard to explain and understand, lost, destroyed, confusing, difficult...a little good news is great news.

Just think of how the disciples must have felt when the Risen Savior walked in the room. Talk about Great News!

No matter where you find yourself, if you know Jesus personally, you can find and have peace in knowing that He is with you. Feel the love! His love!

And Jesus said, "...and lo, I am with you even to the end..." Matthew 28:20b.

Jesus, help us to know your presence in every situation of our lives on this earth. Cover us with your peace and love. Amen.

Jesus Time

Time passes by so quickly. We plan our futures, schedule events, make promises about tomorrow while often taking today for granted when in fact today is all we truly have. James tells us that our lives are just a vapor, that we have no guarantee about tomorrow and yet we go through life thinking we are in control. Oh how wrong we are!

I have another birthday fast approaching and if the Lord allows I will soon be 49 years old (March 3rd). My hair may be gray (distinguished so they tell me??) and my body not as fit as my younger years, but my heart is stronger than ever. I say this with confidence because I am closer to Jesus than ever before. Jesus and I are in right relationship; a love relationship. Jesus and I are on a mission; to go and baptize and teach. Jesus has promised to be with me all the way wherever the way leads and I believe Him. Jesus and I are walking together. Step by step with my Savior!! Day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment...Time with Jesus is the only time which matters in the end!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!!!!!! (Holy Bible)

when life changes direction

A couple weeks ago the direction of mom's life changed. A Saturday afternoon stroke stopped her in her tracks and now her journey is headed in a different direction. One day up and one day down. But a change in direction doesn't change the direction of her Lord. Wherever she finds herself He is there. He is in her valley and He is on her mountain top. He sees her sleeping and He sees her awake. Jesus is her comfort. He is her anchor!

Lord Jesus, hold the hand of my mom and keep her safe in your peace.

And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and soul through Jesus Christ. Phil 4:7

Glory

In Greenville hospital are many people with many different needs. I sit with mom and watch her slowly improve and then sit and talk with others sitting with a husband, wife, son, and mother. Mrs. Lou is having to make a very difficult decision concerning her husband. Mr. Thomas has been here for four months with his wife of 45 years and his hope and faith encourage me. Mr. Lewis comforts his girlfriend as her son faces difficult days. Ms Susan waits on her mother and Jesus. Suffering...before we ask "Why?" listen to what Jesus said to his disciples. "Neither...but that the works of God will be glorified" John 9:3.

Give Jesus His Glory!

Lord Jesus, comfort those hurting and depending on You for their strength. Be near with Your peace which passes all understanding.. Amen.

Sunday, February 7, 2010

Sometimes life throws rocks at you, at least they feel like rocks. My thoughts are...pile them up because Jesus said on this rock I will build My church. I plan to give Him all of mine!!

Lord Jesus, Help me to be strong and to be a part of Your work for the kingdom. Let us build it together. Amen.

Please keep my mom in your prayers. She is in a physical battle today.

Love Jesus

Philippians 4:6a, "Do not be anxious about anything..."

Anxiousness is real and it is an instrument of the enemy. When we find ourselves in dark and confusing places in our lives we must ENTRUST all our cares to Jesus. He completely understands when others do not. Jesus knows the places of darkness and despair; remember the Garden of Gethsemane, remember the trial, remember the cross. But let us never forget HIS VICTORY! Christ overcame these places so we can overcome ours. Remember that Jesus walks with you and sometimes He carries you too.

Lord Jesus, when the enemy surrounds us with all sorts of evil, when we strain to see through the darkness, when we don't know if we will make it or not, touch us, whisper your promises again to us, hold us tighter, and carry us when we are too weak to stand. When life gets tough make us tougher and bolder and more trusting. We live in your strength and in your victory. Amen.

Matthew 26: 38-39 "Then He said to them, 'My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here and watch with me. 39b "Father,if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: NEVERTHELESS, not as I will, but as you will."

NEVERTHELESS equals VICTORY!
Entrust everything to Jesus!

Warning

Early this morning I found out that my home computer was being attacked by a virus. There were no warnings or alarms. Once the little booger was in he was in. Everything I tried to do to correct the problem failed. I had to call on a professional.

Life is full of viruses, let's just call them the enemy. From the moment we awake, the enemy is already hard at work trying to mess up our relationship with Jesus. He doesn't shout out any warnings or sound any alarms. The enemy is quite sneaky and determined and destructive. Before we even realize it we have been attacked and once he is in he's in. We can try with all our strength to fight him off but we will ultimately fail. Only when we call on the power and strength of the Professional, Jesus Christ, will we defeat the enemy. Stay connected and protected with the One who debugs our life of evil's viruses. Jesus; the ultimate anti-virus protection!

Jesus, You are our rock of salvation, our rescue in the storm, our reach in the sinking sand, our resistance in the silence and our reason to shout "hallelujah!" Protect your children from the evils that seek to remove us from your presence. In Your Name, Amen.

Love Jesus!

Php 4:5, "Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand."

When you Love Jesus there absolutely needs to be an evidence of a Christ relationship in your life. The many lost souls who refuse to visit the church are depending on you. Your kindness, concern, humbleness, and love may be the only Gospel message they see or hear in this dark and confused world. There's even some in the church that need you. Remember, someone is always watching you and Jesus is coming again soon!

Lord Jesus, help me to be bold in my gentleness among your people. It is my prayer that others see You in me and through my actions and attitudes. May the hurting, lost and confused return to You today Lord Jesus. Amen.

Love Jesus!

"Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice!" Philippians 4:4

This is a "Love Jesus" verse!
Rejoicing is the expression of the Delight within you!

Lord Jesus, when I had nothing to offer You....you loved me and you saved me. You have always loved me. You guided my life until I called out to You. I am without words.......I love you! Amen

"Why not!"

Since early January I have been dealing with a back issue. What I first thought to be a kidney infection has grown into a full-blown, knock-down, say "uncle" fight. The bed seems to give the most relief until I go to get up. It's not a pretty picture. Now I'm not trying to get anyone to feel sorry for me but I do want to share my thoughts this beautiful morning.

When difficulties come our way it is easy to ask God "Why?" It's the natural human response. But what should be the response of the Believer? This morning, as I tried to find some Christian music on the radio, as I adjusted in my chair to find relief from the pain, my mind told me this, "Why not!"

I'm no fool. I know that the Enemy is always looking for ways to get me. He is at war with those working everyday to stay the course of obedience and faithfulness to Jesus. Those shinning their light for the One called Wonderful, Counselor, Prince of Peace. Yes, the enemy is real and seeks to destroy but we know the Real Truth and deliverance is ours. Find strength in knowing that you are on the winning team!

Lord, I seek your peace, healing, and protection today and everyday until You come for your church. Amen.

(Psalms 34:5-8) They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (NKJV)

Training

Training:

It's no trick. When life gets tough keep trusting Jesus. Turn all your troubles over to Him. Tap into the true Source. Trials keep us in-touch with the Teacher. He traveled where we trod. He wasn't tripped-up by temptation. He told the Tempter to step aside. Keep trusting Jesus when life gets tough. It's no trick. It's training!

Lord, train us to follow You and to always trust in You. Amen.

Matthew 4:7, "Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

1Peter 1:7, "That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:"

find me finding You

Trust, love, encouragement, promise, answer, joy, safety, protection are just a few of the words which describe our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He made the way a real path of possibility for you and me. There's no need to doubt or question because what Jesus has promised He has provided. What Jesus announced He assured. What Jesus came to do He did! Jesus! The name above all names!

My prayer for you and me is "Find me finding You" Lord Jesus. You are the One proclaimed as the Wonderful One! Glory to the Lamb! Amen!

"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. "And where I go you know, and the way you know." Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
(John 14:1-6 NKJV)

Snowy Heaven alert!

Well, the weather man got it right this time. His persistence has finally paid off. The snow is really coming down. As I look out my window my thoughts are, the preacher man's persistence in sharing the Gospel of Jesus is paying off greatly too. Keep tell the Good news; the Son has come and Heaven will soon be coming down!

Praise and Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Come quickly Lord, come quickly! Amen..

John 6:51, "I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

Last night during the Lady Bulldogs basketball game Faith stole the ball, ran down the court, and made a picture perfect lay-up scoring two points for the team. Pride was heavy on Dad's face! It just proves that "practice makes perfect." I can't help but think that when Christ's team gets one from the enemy and scores points for the team that our Heavenly Father has a sense of pride. A love and victory pride!

Great game Faith and great glory for those of the faith!

Amen Lord! Amen. Awesome! AMEN!

Philippians 3:8, "...I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ." (KJV)

Trusting In Him

It's 10:19 pm Tuesday night in Tennessee. I am trying to get to everyone in bed because tomorrow is Aprille's Spinal procedure at Vanderbilt. We have to be there at 6:45 am and will probably be there most of the day. Keep Aprille in your thoughts and prayers. She is leaning on Jesus with all her faith. It has been my prayer to God that if He is allowing us to walk this path again that He will walk close with us. Our trust is in Jesus completely. May God be glorified!

In His Care,
Paul

Refreshing...

Ministry with “The Preacher Boys”…How I see it.

Reflecting on the past ministry team trip, there’s one word I would use to describe the experience; refreshing. It is amazing how God knows just what I need and just when I need it. The day began early, but not quite as early as I had intended. I overslept and fourteen young men waited patiently for me to arrive at the campus. When I finally arrived no one said anything rude or cutting to me, they welcomed me. Now that was refreshing for the last man in line. As we drove toward our destination, I listened to young men share life experiences. There was laughter and praise and promise in our vehicle. It is refreshing to see God at work in lives. Although the church eluded us (Thanks’ MapQuest), when we filed into its open doors I was refreshed yet again. The music, the drama, the message, the meal, and the fellowship gave me a sense of what Heaven will be. Heaven will be refreshment to all who enter. Sitting alone with my pastor in his home, I listened to his wisdom and felt his heart and compassion. His wife made their team complete! To witness such love for Jesus and each other is refreshing to my soul. Standing in the midst of the congregation sharing God’s Word and Truth to a sin-challenged people not only charged their hearts, but refreshed my heart too. Life is tough but God is tougher. God is a refreshing reality! The trip home was long but our spirits were lifted, refreshed as I see it!

Lord Jesus, thank you for all your refreshing people and for your refreshing love. Amen.

Acts 3:19, "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" (RSV)

Surfing

I've been surfing God's Word and several other sources today. The sea has been somewhat calm. Still waiting on a curl to tuck in. I know the perfect wave will soon rush over me.

Speak Lord! Open my eyes and heart! Rush over me! Amen.

"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32 KJV)

What Lord!

1Kings 19:9, "And there he [Elijah] went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He [God] said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

May our question be, "Jesus, What do You want me to do here?"

Show us Lord Jesus what to do next. Help us to trust and not to fear. Help us to know You are near. Help us to listen for Your whisper. Amen

Victory!

I watched the DuPont Tyler Bulldogs basketball team come from behind in the last quarter and win their game. At half-time I almost went home. At the end of the third quarter I re-considered going home again. But in the last quarter, when all seemed hopeless, the young men amazed their fans. It was their determination and teamwork which brought them victory. They executed play after play according to how their coach had taught them. They had confident in their coach and the strength to win the battle. Awesome game guys!

As believers, we have to follow the guidance of our Coach, Jesus Christ. When we find ourselves in the last quarter, He will lead us to victory. When we execute our faith as He has trained us, we will find that we have the strength to win the battle by His Spirit. Even when those around us doubt our purpose, our determination, teamwork, trust, and faithfulness will be rewarded with the prize of Glory! The Coach will say "Awesome guys!"

Lord Jesus, You are our victory today and for all eternity. Help us to wave the victory banner high! Amen.

I Corinthians 15:57, "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ ."

From me to you....

I'm called to help you. Sometimes I might have to ask the hard questions, give the tough answers, cut you deep, push you in the right direction, show my disapproval, disagree with your decisions, say "No," demand truth, and hold you accountable.... But don't run away. God has sent me here for you to help you. I will hold your hand, share your joys, wipe your tears, laugh and cry with you, be your friend, believe in you, stand with you, fight for you, seek God with you, love you, and pray with you...for you...to the One who knows and loves you. That's what I'll do!

Lord Jesus, give me your compassion for the hurting, lost and friendless. Strengthen me for the duty for which you have called me into. In Your Name, Amen.

Heb 10:37 "For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry."

Until then, look for me!

Fruit

In desperate times enjoy delicious fruit. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)

Lord, create within me the fruits of your spirit. May my life reflect You. May my life flow your life. Amen.

Designated

Has anyone ever designated something to you? Clothes, time, money? For those who have experienced this blessing no words can really explain the gratitude. I have found that a prayer of thanksgiving offered to God pleading blessing for the giver represents my heart and thanks and love best. I never know who you are, but our Savior does! Thanks again!

Lord, bless them with heavenly blessings supplying all their needs and desire according to your perfect will. Amen.

Stronghold

Remembering Haiti.

Father You tell us in your Word to cast our cares on You. I ask that your very real presence be felt and realized among the people in Haiti now captive in this tragedy. Their lives are forever changed. Glorify Yourself in this moment of time and space. Glorify Yourself I pray. May the world see Your power! May the living know You through Jesus Christ! Help them I pray. Amen.

Stronghold

People have a tendency to give up too quickly. When life gets tough or unfair we quit our jobs, doubt our own abilities, end our marriage, change churches, change friends, break promises, tell lies, and turn on God. What's up with that? Well that's how the enemy works. He will use dissatisfaction, personal deficiencies, broken-hearts, confusion, attitudes, disappointment, deception, and even create a false understanding about God to destroy lives and opportunities. The battle is real. Evil is real. The only answer is anchoring your life in Christ. He is your stronghold!

Lord Jesus, You are our strong tower in this tough world. You are our Rock and Salvation. Help us and strengthen us as we cling to You. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Graduation Day

If anyone wants to know what it is like to be a college student in the "prime" of your life (late 40's), then call me! Today was the first day of my final semester at FWBBC. When God called me into ministry and then led me to this college, I was humbled and overwhelmed. I well remember the emotions of the first few days. But I knew that I was in His will and although its been a little awkward at times, come May 7, 2010 I will complete this portion of my journey. I refer to it as training, but it has really been ministry. God has used me here and I have made many new friends. The experiences and relationships I will forever treasure. The lesson which I've learned through this experience is do not question God. A Divine appointment is a direct order. The key is obedience. Even through my failures my Savior has been faithful. I'm trusting the One who knows everyone and continuing on to that final Graduation Day!

Lord Jesus, only You know what is planned for me. Help me to accomplish your plans by continuing to walk with me, live in me, and work through me. May I be found Your faithful servant. Praise to the One called Wonderful! Amen.

Philippians 3:12, "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me." (NKJV)

Beans

Since New Years I have been into beans. I cooked the traditional black-eyed-peas for the first day of the year (good-luck food), then I cooked a pot of navy beans with ham (wonderful snow day food), and today, on our Lord's Day, I cooked red beans with onion (not too bad if I say so myself). I'm already thinking about what bean is next on my grocery list!

I know this bean blog is kinda simple, maybe you don't even like beans (Faith doesn't!), but I am amazed how God knew and knows all our needs and that He created beans of various size and flavor to fulfill our nutritional needs. So friend, be thankful for God's gift of beans. Try them...you might just like them! A most of all, thank God for all of His provisions!

Father, thank you for supplying our food and for the many varieties of food to satisfy our tastes and needs. I don't know if I've every thanked you for beans, so Lord Jesus let me thank you now. Your beans are a true blessing and a little wonder. I love Your creativity! Thanks again and I say...Amen.

Roads

With soft snow flurries and extremely cold temps, I decided to take a ride to Walmart for some supplies. If the road leaving my subdivision was any indication of what's ahead, the drive would require some careful maneuvering. As I reached the main highway, I realized that my little road was most definitely the one less traveled. The main street was much easier to drive down. Is that not like the Christian walk? We often travel down roads less traveled. Sometimes if not most of the time, these paths can be more challenging and require greater faith. Jesus walked the less traveled, so why should you and I expect anything less of our journey. So as we walk along know that Jesus has been there and done that before us and He goes with us today.

Jesus, hold my hand and walk beside me today down the path You have chosen for me. I'm trusting in You! Amen!

My War Analysis.

I heard it with my own ears. “America is at war.” The truth is, Christianity is at war. The battle rages from within and without, home and abroad, family and foe. The enemy knows no boundaries. His battle plan takes no prisoners. His cry is for death. Christians, stand firm in Jesus Christ! Be bold in your witness. Radical extremists cannot defeat Him! Pagan principles cannot over-power Him. Ungodly leadership cannot dethrone Him. Evil will be extinguished!

Victory is ours! Prayer is our weapon. Obedience is our mission. Christ is our stronghold. Suit up in the whole armor of God. Do not fear failure! Jesus denounced failure. Remember His life, death, and resurrection; it is your proof, peace and promise. He and we shall not be moved!

Lord, we stand firm on your promise of victory to those who know You. Protect us from the evil that seeks to cut us down. Shield and cover us on all sides. Lead us through the battle to victory. Make us to be strong soldiers. In Your Name I pray. Amen

Psalm 62:6, "He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved."

Simple challenge?

I read a statistic which said 25% of the church are saving 75% of the lost. In my experience, only about 10% of believers do all the work for the Kingdom of God. I've been thinking this thought recently. Be the one to bring one to the ONE. Sound simple? Just think of the possibilities. If everyone of Christ's church would guide just one lost soul to the Savior, the church would reach more, teach more, comfort more, help more, love more, and glorify God more than ever before. My simple challenge...Be the one to bring one to the One!

Lord Jesus, You gave me a mission which I have failed many times over. Forgive me. Today I stand ready for the challenge but I cannot do this work alone. Go with me Jesus and help me to bring the lost to You, one soul at a time. In Your strength I pray. Amen.

Bearing fruit

I recently began reading from Spurgeon’s The Treasury of David and I am already challenged by the commentary and insights. I can’t wait to dive in again today and to meditate on God’s Holy Word. Life has a sense of uncertainty for me right now; I feel somewhat lost in my understanding of what to do next in ministry. But even with my uneasiness, I am certain of my Savior and know without one shadow of doubt that He is in complete control. Spurgeon records a reference to Psalm 1:3 “His fruit in his season” the following words by Adam Clarke. “…he who reads, prays, and meditates will ever see the work which God has given him to do; the power by which he is to perform it; and the times, places, and opportunities for doing those things by which God can obtain most glory…” This I know! When I seek Him I will find him!

Lord Jesus, be very real today in my life. Speak through my confusion your words of peace and security. Find me finding You. Amen.

Ps 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Chambers, January 4

Canceled, filled, wait, finish...were just a few of the words that crossed my ears and clouded my thoughts yesterday. Plans change and doors open & close and I find myself trying to take the lead, trying to determine the next step. Oswald Chambers says, "never run before God's guidance." But it's hard to wait Mr. Chambers! Everything points to this being what God wants me to do! Don't I need to be proactive? Don't I need to help God out? Chambers says, "When God brings a blank space, see that you do not fill it in, but wait." Waiting is hard Mr. Chambers, but I'll follow your advice."Whenever there is doubt ---don't."

Lord, help me to wait upon You and to know Your will for my life. Lord direct me to the place You want me to be. Lord, hold my hand as we go. Amen.

Monday Morning Joys

Well, it's Monday morning, 18 degrees and snow flurries. The whole family was up early to take Aprille for an MRI. We were first on the schedule. No sooner than we had arrived for the appointment the fire-alarm went off at Vanderbilt. People were leaving the building but we were escorted to the patient holding area to proceed with the MRI. But the MRI machine didn't get the memo that we were coming early and during a fire-alarm. It would not work. It's Monday! A wasted morning...not really. I sat with Faith and we laughed together at FRESH PRINCE on the flat screen TV. I read some funny girl quotes out of a magazine. Faith said "Like really dad, will you shut-up!" I almost went back to sleep in the waiting room recliner. Although the MRI had to be rescheduled, the morning wasn't that bad. I found it to be somewhat joyful!

Lord, You have a way of making a upside-down morning right-side up. Thank you for the joy of the moment. Amen.

On the team

It has been a quiet day at the Gillikin homestead. The girls have been sleeping most of the day. I've kept the fireplace burning and I've been studying and seeking and listening. I really needed to take down our Christmas tree (fire hazard by now) but it has brought us much joy through this holiday season. More than in years past as I recall. I think it helped Aprille the most.

Although I do not always understand God's ways, I know that He knows everything concerning my life. God is never surprised or caught off-guard. That's reassuring to me. This morning in my quiet time, I was reminded that a right relationship with Jesus means victory. Not just a future victory but victory for today. My life is a victory in Christ. I have already won because Christ won. Christ and me on the winning team! Amazing truth!

Lord Jesus, You picked me to be on Your team. Me! I am honored and blessed. Call the plays Lord! Amen.

Like I said....it's been quiet today. "Speak loudly Lord so I can hear You clearly. Amen"

I will...

I sat on my couch with my wife on one side and my daughter on the other (both held tightly in my arms) as the New Year approached. We counted down with excitement and celebrated together with hugs and kisses and laughter. I called out to God for His continued blessing. I told my girls that "we only need to trust Jesus." His mercies are new every morning. It's a new morning, a new day, a new year, and a new decade! I will hold to His promise and trust in His word. I will trust when I do not understand. I will seek His strength. I will be still and listen for His voice. I will honor Him. I will by His power!

Lord Jesus, thank you for your mercies and your love and your strength and your promises. Thank you for your forgiveness and for healing, for second chances, and for your Holy Spirit; my Comforter. Guide me and my family in the direction you have planned for us. Help us to know your will and to know You much deeper. Praise Your Wonderful Name! Amen.
